Last month it was reported that national car dealership chain, CarMAx, has experienced plummeting used car sales. Those car sales fell even with steep discounts being offered.
This comes at the same time the Oregon legislature has passed a $4.3 billion gas tax/wage tax. This tax increases the gas tax by 15%, wage transit tax by 100% and doubles some DMV fees.
The people who cannot afford to buy a used car are our low-income hurting friends and neighbors. Now, the Legislature has made it EVEN MORE PAINFUL to purchase the car they currently cannot afford to purchase.
Stay tuned. The Taxpayers Association of Oregon, State Senator Bruce Starr and Representative Ed Diehl have submitted the paperwork to launch a statewide petition referendum to stop this tax by forcing it to the ballot for a big public vote — so all Oregonians can decide for themselves if they wish to be taxed into more poverty. The petition drive will not happen until Governor Kotek signs the tax bill which will happen anyday now between today to November 15th.
Stay tuned.
