Petition makes November 2026 ballot if it gets at least 78,116 valid signatures
Julie Mespelt was eager to sign a petition seeking to give Oregon voters a chance to overturn the gas tax hike and increase in payroll taxes and vehicle registration fees that Gov. Tina Kotek signed on Nov. 10.
Mespelt, who lives in Baker City, said she didn’t plan to get involved in the signature-gathering campaign. But as she thought about the effects of the $4.3 billion bill for road improvements and public transit, Mespelt decided she wasn’t content to contribute only her signature to the effort.
She said she was motivated not by politics, but by her belief Oregonians should have a say in their tax burden…
