Karen from Portland wrote us at the Taxpayers Association of Oregon a very special and heartfelt note saying she couldn’t gather extra signatures for the Stop the Gas Tax referendum petition drive. She detailed that due to a June stroke she was unable to get out and gather more names outside of herself.
Karen’s story is a powerful reminder that many Oregonians are in a troubled spot (recovery, hurt, injury, unemployment, disability) and cannot fully participate in direct Democracy as they wish they could. This is why we need to stand up for those who can’t. When you gather signatures for a petition, you are speaking for the most vulnerable among us.
