Oregon Governor Tina Kotek held a press conference and admitted she made a “mistake” with the gas tax she ramroded through the Legislature and then tried to block the campaign from collecting signatures.
Now, her plan is to move the public vote on the gas tax from November to the May Primary because half the voters do not show-up. A KATU-TV online poll shows that 89% do not support that election swap.
Here is what Governor Kotek said;
“Here’s what I will say. I work hard even if mistakes get made or things don’t go out, don’t go right. If you sit there and just complain about, well, that didn’t work well, that’s not my job. My job is they’re like, okay, let’s put that behind us. Let’s get to the solution,” she responded. “I think I would say to Oregonians, if you expect your elected leaders to always get it right, you’re going to be disappointed. But what you need from your elected leaders is persistence and a can-do attitude.”
““Right now, my major concern is the fact that we have about a $300 million budget hole in the Oregon Department of Transportation. What was passed last year is not happening. So my job right now is to figure out, in a bipartisan fashion, to fill that budget hole. And I’ve had at least three meetings now with legislative leaders, bipartisan meetings, to say ‘How do we fill that hole?’” Kotek said.”
