Now that Governor Tina Kotek has failed to pull the gas tax vote from the ballot, the next step is to control the ballot measure title and summary explanation as to mislead voters to favor the tax.
This scheme was done under a different Oregon referendum Measure 101 in 2018. This referendum helped refer a massive health tax that was passed by the politicians. And yes, back then the Taxpayers Association of Oregon played a role in helping collect signatures to make the ballot just as they played a role in the gas tax referendum making the ballot.
The ballot title for Measure 101 (2018) was drafted by a special legislative committee rather than the state’s attorney general.
Back then politicians passed Senate Bill 229, which empowered six lawmakers to write the ballot title instead of the Attorney General. The result was a lousy, biased and unfair ballot title. Expect the February 35-day session to pass such a bill.
Unless you help us call into the State Capitol to stop it.
