Rep. Dwayne Yunker Condemns Passage of SB 1599
Oregonians Right to Vote Should Not Be Manipulated
SALEM, Ore. – Representative Dwayne Yunker (R–Grants Pass) today condemned the passage of Senate Bill 1599, legislation that shifts the voter referendum on the 2025 transportation tax package from the November general election to the May primary election. An estimated 98.5% of Oregonians opposed the bill.
Speaking on the House floor prior to the vote, Representative Yunker said, “Senate Bill 1599 is not about budgeting. It is about control. Control of turnout. Control of timing. And control of the outcome.”
“This bill has nothing to do with the state budget,” said Representative Yunker. “If it did, why did Democrats pass Senate Bill 1507 to take away Oregonians’ Big Beautiful Bill tax cuts?”
“Let’s be clear,” said Representative Yunker. “Senate Bill 1599 is political damage control, another example of the Oregon Democrat cartel attempting to influence an election rather than trusting Oregon voters.”
“We work for the people,” said Representative Yunker, “Their right to vote should never be manipulated.”
Representative Yunker walked off the House floor in protest of the sham process before Republican legislators voted unanimously against the bill.
